Bulk chemicals

Project responsibles

Prof. Marie F. Gorwa-Grauslund

The development of robust microorganisms for bioethanol production forms the basis for a new bio-chemical industry, where petrochemical raw materials are replaced by renewable raw materials from forestry and agriculture. Current projects at Applied Microbiology are making use of the already existing in house yeast platform (see Bioethanol) to further design tailor-made yeast strains for the production of bioplastic precursors. Current challenges include the redirection of metabolic pools and the identification and introduction of efficient alternative metabolic routes.
